We found backup disks created in either PAF 2.2 or 3.0. We would love to access the information on these disks. Any ideas?

Yes, it is possible to retrieve the data from the backup floppy disks created in either PAF 2.2 or 3.0. You can try accessing the information using compatible software or by transferring the data to a modern storage medium and using compatible software to open and read the files.
To install PAF 5.2 and transfer genealogy data, you can follow these steps:
Download the installation file for Personal Ancestral File (PAF) 5.2 from a reliable source.
Run the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to install PAF on your Windows computer.
Once installed, open PAF 5.2 and locate the option to import or transfer genealogy data.
Connect your brother's computer or storage device (containing the genealogy data) to your computer.
Use the PAF software to import the data from your brother's computer or storage device. Make sure to select all the relevant files or folders containing the genealogy data.
Follow any additional prompts or instructions provided by the software to complete the transfer process.
By following these steps, you should be able to transfer all the genealogy data correctly from your brother to your computer using Personal Ancestral File (PAF) 5.2.
… freeware or otherwise. I have a tree of more than 20,000 people, so GEDCOM import into the new program would have to be compatible & complete.

One popular alternative to PAF is the software called "Legacy Family Tree." It has a high compatibility with GEDCOM import/export and can support large family trees like the one you have. It also has many useful features and a user-friendly interface.
I have PAF 5.2 on my Windows 7 computer. If I buy a new Windows 10, how do I set-up and get the data into the new computer?

The simplest way is to export the content to its default format and then reinstall the software on Windows 10 and import the previously exported content. There is no other procedure since the software doesn't support Cloud storage to automatically retrieve the content.
Usually it's done through File > Save As or File > Export and then follow the instructions.
I've done this with many applications and it worked well. On Windows 10 you might have to apply a compatibility tweak. After installation, if the software doesn't work properly, right click it and go to Properties > Compatibility. Choose a previous version and launch the software.
The Personal Ancestral File is not available or supported anymore. If you still have it installed or the setup package, compatibility is assured up to Windows 8. On a Mac, you would have to use an emulator that is capable of running Windows applications while the Mac OS is running as well.
You can use WineBottler to try to run the application on Mac, even if there is no dedicated version released exclusively for Mac.
No, you can't download Personal Ancestral File on Windows 10 because the developers (FamilySearch) have ceased support on July 15, 2013. This also means the product is now considered to be discontinued.
The developers recommend using the following products:
Computer hard drive crashed which contained PAF program and the OS. My information was saved on another partition. Can I restore my information into my new computer with Windows 8, or do I need to download and install the Personal Ancestra Family software?

You can't restore the installed program because this might lead to errors. If you have your data saved on another partition, you can download and install the program again, on your Windows 8 computer. It's advised to install the 5.2 version to avoid any compatibility issues. To load your data into the freshly installed program, just copy the files to an USB stick (or choose another transfer method that works for you) and load them to the new computer. You shouldn't experience any problems.
There seems to be an error with the application because it should allow you to change all the records as necessary. To fix this error, firstly backup the database to a safe location and then re-install the product. Next time you're installing make sure to choose Run as Administrator and follow the guidance. When you start the software for the first time, select Run as Administrator as well. Import the records and then you should be able to edit them.
Yes, you can update to version 5.2, but if other errors appear, reach the official website to obtain support for the program using the following link: https://familysearch.org/ask/#/
This product has been discontinued, but in case you have all the versions mentioned, then yes, you can transfer the data to another version. To do this simply use the EXPORT function and backup all the data from the previous version and then IMPORT it to the new version (5.2). This is the only way. If you try to copy it directly from folder to folder, you will encounter issues when loading.
